graduated.

a weekend before this past weekend, my little brother david graduated from college. one of the special treats from this graduation weekend was the influx of different families. cousins and aunts, uncles and sisters came from all over to celebrate this important milestone for this crop of young folks who had spent the majority of the past four years living in the capital city of the state of connecticut- hartford.

of course in true north american tradition, feasts were prepared as beverages were kept cold. the parents that i met with an old school pound due to my scuffle with a street dog in the capital city of india, were kind and fascinating. tales of moustaches, long flights on pakistan international airlines during the hajj, late night walks through hartford and hopes for the future were shared amongst families throughout the weekend.

the strong friendships built and sustained over the past four years were visible and beautiful to watch. those boys from yesterday, well of course, they were enjoying because they were about to graduate...

enjoying...

these unidentified young men are standing in front of a small tree, laughing while smiling and enjoying...

who are these derelicts? and why do they enjoy as much as they do?

my curly haired grandaddy

this is herbert adasko. my momma's poppa.

this photo must be a gem from the 1980s, and although a little bit out of focus, it's my grandaddy herbert, for sure. it's fun to sort through old photographs, true images from the past and discover a wonder full reason to smile on a cloudy day.

a camera is perhaps one of the easiest ways to record moments in time for future generations to remember, life and clothes, ways of living and distinctive smiles...

truth it is, that none of us know when we'll journey out of the on deck circle and onto our next journey... but it'll certainly happen...

perhaps only an image on paper, or a visual stored in a digital archive, these photos are still here on earth to be seen...

getting back to gotham

i fell asleep and awoke, to find myself back in new york city. it had been exactly three months from this past sunday that i had arrived in india. and so, full circle, i have returned to cool spring mornings, warm afternoons and cooler evenings.

these past three months i learned a lot about living while struggling. patience, i think, is something i'm beginning to get the hang of...

my youngest brother david is graduating this weekend from college. he's grown a lot since this photograph was taken in 1989. although no matter how much he grows, he'll always be my littliest brother, a fact which gives me a devilish grin...

mornings of life

it is 3:30 am in india. may first. for the past two weeks i have been waking up at 2 am, migrating and documenting an incredible community working remarkably hard, traversing roads and paths brought about by a bend in the road, a fork in the forest or an elevator in a government building.

this morning i migrated a little bit electronically, by no means an experience to be filed in the same folder as walking, but similarly diverging at times with options unclear.

as i've sat here captioned, a royal challenge, bhindi and green beans for sustenance, paani, grapes and a mango to keep me up till now. i am ready to rest for a little this morning.

a blessed song, "Jah Jah ( The Intelligence of Your Mind)" has been grooving and kept me going through and through this early morning. mmm, the beat's hot too...

jah jah
wo yeah, wo yeah

jah jah and nature first made us what we are....
there is no height to which you can climb....

by using the active intelligence of your mind...
by using the active intelligence of your mind...

to do the things that are upright...
to do the things that are right in jah's eye...

if they laugh at you, if they dishonour you...
if they disregard you, or if they disrespect you...

return the compliments with uprightness...
return the compliments with uprightness...
