frosted mornings.

autumn is here in new zealand. and yes, that statement felt weird to write and to read on this here mid-afternoon in late april, but it's the way things roll here in the southern hemisphere, seasons shifted, reversed and remixed...

a couple weeks back, in arthur's pass national park, trekking the casey saddle/binser saddle two day tramp, with a stop in casey hut for a night, dawn arrived and what had previously been green mountain tops were now snow covered after a day of rain which was naturally snow at high elevation. tramping, c'mon feet!, from casey hut and into the wide, vast and spectacular poulter river valley, snow capped peaks, braided river beds, fresh air, quiet breezes and blue skies was just another reinforcement that being confined inside takes its toll on a brother. and that the best thing to do in this country and possibly anywhere and everywhere for reinforcement of not only how tiny a species in the scope of it all we are, but also a reminder that wide vistas, valleys, rocky shores are truly the startling essence and draw of these here remote islands in the southeast of el mar pacifico...

this is the open flat before the poulter river valley, frosty frozen with dew encapsulating the autumn yellow wild grasses and beneath, are the high peaks of the snow cup range above the poulter river...
