trooping through t o

it's early morning and its been early rising here in t o. it's the first overcast morning since i've arrived in this splendid country and the blessed rains may arrive this later day. work abounds, homework to be precise and today it should fill up my day. salif keita has got me going right now, firing me up like a clay pot. i feel glazed and ready for a another chai.

t o T O

this is a run down factory space of some sort near my house that has mad mad mad glass windows. obviously people seem to have fun launching rocks and breaking those windows old school grade school style.

tea dot chai wallah

i'm sitting here a touch after noon in the west end of the t dot oh dot. across the way school is in session, proper school like grade school and the chillin are heading back from recess. the sounds of joy and playing and laughter and joking going inside till 3:30 or so when dismissal goes down.

i'm listening to mme. erykah badu while going through some much neglected photographs from this summer.

i've been here in canada for almost two weeks now and already many of the cultural differences between this fine land and the land beneath it are becoming clear. more to come on that in the coming days and months.

school, for me, is back in session too. class one was yesterday and tomorrow more to come and friday and on...

my house is starting to feel like a home and the diversity of my neighborhood in all aspects- food, religion, people, economics, age... is truly inspiring. who would have thought without seeing this fine ville, that it really held such magnificient and inspiring communities and cultures.

already, this city feels like a blessing.

while reviewing these scans i saw this little half photo half not. it was taken by Hamita in the Chopal area of Himachal Pradesh.

land sliding

in july i found myself in the indian himalayas. i was there with the crane, tall and lean, thin and fit, he was a perfect companion for the land sliding that we did. we had been in the mountains for about ten days. it had taken us, off and on, with stops for chai and sleep and time, almost that same amount of time to reach our stellar and styling destination of har ki doon.

on the return journey, back to a village where we could grab a bus that would take us to the plains, we ran into a roadblock- a landslide that no man or woman or child would dare to cross. the sight of this landslide was upsetting, as we had hiked almost 40 kilometres at that junction and had thought, we would be in a little jeep by then.

no autos were running and no feet could traverse this road which had been completely scree-ed out. in fact, we were told that the road wouldn't be fixed till october.

alas, we found a route that took us high above the landslide and although it was an hour out of our way, it was the quickest way to find home.

keep an eye on the lenz as the images transform across a new border from the big apple tree to a maple leaf moon.
