after the flood.

new orleans, louisiana is one remarkable place. rich in culture and oozing with love, the city if full of remarkable people and stories that inspire.

i found myself in new orleans a few weeks back with the mustt kalandar. we explored this city at sea level for almost one week.

we went down to the delta, to wade in the waters rich in silt. we made a dawn pilgrimage to the mississippi gulf coast, with its dolphins and fisherman, living on barrier islands in the gulf of mexico. and we explored the lower ninth ward and st. bernard's parish by bicycle, photographing and observing a land that just under four years ago suffered from the aftermath of one of the most vicious storms that ever hit new orleans.

in the coming days, the lenz will share new images of new orleans.

welcome to the lower ninth ward, nestled between and below the levees of lake pontrachain and the mississippi river...

the mississippi gulf coast...

down on the mississippi gulf coast heading out to the gulf islands national seashore with the mustt kalandar, massive birds followed our boat as it headed on its route to a beautiful southern island beach.

with the digital camera in tow, i got the zoom going and followed these wilding wings as they cruised through the skies...

the rewards are here in these split second captures...

tomorrow i'm hoping to drop off these negs and soon, the proper film will grace the lenz.

april in april- bowling with kangaroos...

this morning, my brother dave and myself took a trip up to harlem with our friend april to go bowling.

bowling, we did, with bumpers of course, and we had heaps and heaps of fun as well. it was a grey day and with that, a perfect day for bowling. after our sporting, we stopped at a local little taqueria. i ate a torta de queso and davey and april had a taco de pollo each.

above us was a framed case with many butterflies and april began to inquire about names of animals in spanish. we asked our nine year old waitress what dinosaur is in spanish and she told us, dinosaur with an accent. and then april asked her pops how to say kangaroo in spanish. stumped, he was, and soon the whole taqueria was trying to figure out the translation for that hopping animal...

new things, we all learn every day...

the big easy

the big easy ain't two ladies with fur coats on, shading themselves from a late winter sun, although thinking about it, that certainly is some type of big easy.

nah, the big easy is new orleans, louisiana. a city i've heard is wonderful and full of culture and beauty and of course, a place that has suffered monumentally in the past many years.

i'm heading down to louisiana with tomorrow with the camera toting mustt kalandar to walk and photograph and walk and photograph new orleans and the surrounding region...
so for about a week or so, the lenz will be on vacation and images of louisiana soon to bless these pages...

hip hopping

saturday morning i journeyed with my poppa and my brother up north to hartford, ct to check out the trinity international hip hop festival, a two day event of music, culture, dance and hip hop. it was a cool weekend and the weather was quite chilly too. on saturday d and i checked out an ill film about b-boying around the world. the film was beautiful and inspiring, a reminder that we all must pursue our dreams and follow the things and the ways that make us happy, no matter what the salary is... love is what it's all about...

last night, we went to the premiere concert of the event and musicians from senegal, zimbabwe, mozambique, somalia, the us of a and canada graced and blessed the stage with global love.

above are a few highlights from the 24 hours in hartford...

brighton buddies

on a cold end of winter day i made my first pilgrimage out to brighton beach, bk. the day was splendid and people were out on the boardwalk breathing fresh sea air, stretching muscles and loosening limbs. with my old school twin relfex i walked with the doc and the crane and took in moments while freezing memories...
