mud fun above the sea
almost on top of mt karioi, this was the scene on sunday midday, the tasman sea and kawhia beach in the distance. mad precipitation made for a morning of mud fun and fresh air.
sitting here monday early, with the wood furnace blasting as last night was close to freezing, blasting too, cat stevens "father and sonm" memories of vista journeys out to l.i.
48 hours from now and leg one towards the big apple will be close to completion...

waylon jennings on mother's day
but here we were, mon frere de bordeaux and myself, making our way up cuba street on a sunday in may. coincidences are mighty and as i sit here writing on an early rainy tuesday morning listening to what feels like a perfect soundtrack for this moment, the wellington based band fat freddy's drop, Big BW, i now realize that sunday the 13th of may was mother's day. hmm... the 13th... mother's day...
so there we were. cuba street, back up the hill to the hostel. and this man rolled by on his electric wheelchair, an inspiring uncle. singing country tunes, meandering throughout the nation's capital, distrito federale of the south pacific.
singing waylon jennings, on the 13th, mother's day. have a view of the video and see for yourself...

roaming round wellington...
mon frere de bordeaux and i drove down to wellington, new zealand's capital, on friday evening. it was a seven hour car journey via roundabouts and winding roads and we reached wellington an hour or so after midnight and crashed in a small and cramped hostel.
we woke up early and spent the days roaming round the wet and windy city (though the weather graced us with good clouds and blue skies). from the national museum, te papa, on the waterfront, up mount victoria, over to the botanical gardens, the beehive, the library at victoria university, some soul spots for a brew after dinner, good gelato, the city of wellington is abuzz with creativity, music, energies both of the natural world and those of humanity... it might just a be spot to spend some time at...
on the waterfront, like my main man, marlon brando.
